Programming Failure

Question for the board. Has anybody else been having difficulty with the serial programming cable for the XTS 5000 and the RSS ver. 9.0 software. On this end I have no problems reading the radio, but writing the code plug back to the radio I will get hardware failure 01/82 or open radio failure. I have tried a brand new serial cable purchased from Motorola last week with the same results.
Then I switched COM ports to USB attached the USB cable, and with 1 try read and re-wrote to the radio on the first try. The USB seems to work with several other radios that I was having the same problems with.
Anybody know if the is a problem with the RSS 9.0 and serial ports.
And is the newest ver. a fix for this.
Thanks

i'm a big fan of the usb cables, i hope they come out with usb for all newer radios. but as far as your com port problem make shure you shut off everything that could use the port. i've even left my palm pilot program running and it compltetly shut me off from any programming.

Yes, there is nothing but the bare bones on both of these computers and it is just on writing back to the radio it does not happen when reading them.
Further thinking that the software was somehow corrupted I formated both computers and re-installed all original software and had the same results.

I've had the exact same problem, and even the other way round where the serial cable worked , not the usb. This was with earlier versions like 7.?
and 8.? as well.
I have not struck it with 9 but aparently 150 XTS5000 arrived last week so maybe i'll see what happens>
To me the solution is if one fails try the other.

I've had a few sporadic issues with the Astro25 CPS & have figured out if you have both the mobile & portable CPS on your computer, you need to upgrade both at the same time. If you simply update the mobile for instance, you'll very likely have issues with the older portable CPS, as they share common files. Once both versions are the same, problems go away.
The only real issue I've seen with USB vs Serial cables is the fact that I've experienced about a 2% failure rate when using the USB cable for FLASHporting portables. Had about the same rate in two separate batches of upgrades, first one about 300 XTS2500 with 6 failures, the next one a few years later with 250 XTS5000 portables with 4 failures. Luckily the depot must know this happens, as they've fixed them all at no charge.

Both mobile and portable software are 9.0. I never had a problem with the earlier versions of CPS. I am going to call the big M on Monday to see if they have any info they want to share. Will advise if anything comes of this.

same as Einstein, both versions have always been the same as we order the combo package.
