HI all firstly im in the uk,and the knowledge base on these radios seems to be zero over here,i have managed to get my hands on some ex police motorola astro saber radios,the model is H04RDF9PW7AN. DSP.105.00.18,FIRMWARE 03.20.01.00 SYSTEM PACKAGE H35,FLASH CODE 000001-000000-9,1MEG WITH XL ENCRYPTION.i have never programmed this type of radio before and my knowledge about systems and zones is pretty basic,im struggling trying to work out how when i programme my radios they will not work through a repeater in secure mode,yet if i switch to clear the tx is fine,the secure is working fine back to back.i only bought these radios as i wanted secure transmissions,and will be programming them with 15 channels at the most,the questions are,what am i doing wrong,is this a suitable radio for my needs.any help will be apreciated.also one of the radios has a symbol in the right hand corner of a arrow pointing right??? sorry i seem so dumb as these radios are pretty rare in the uk with only the police having used them.

The |->| symbol means talkaround/simplex.

You can't use secure through just any repeater. You need a repeater specially designed and configured for that purpose, e.g. a Motorola Quantar.

Cheers for that info,i was under the impression that it worked the same as inversion or masc encryption which we use over here.as with those two types you can use a normal repeater.i was under the impression you could use the encryption??? i cant get my head around why the police over here used this system,as they used it on normal tait repeaters.so it looks like ive bought a pair of doorstops.

Probably not doorstops......these still work extremely well without encryption, and will work on repeaters other than a Quantar......

For Example, MSF5000's with a secure board maybe?

The only reason,i bought these was for the encryption,i had no idea you need a special repeater! over here the normal encryption works on uhf or vhf repeaters no problems,i think its because ive got radios that are more for the american market,ah well i cant win them all,i swapped them for a few other radios,only the police firearms teams over here use them.i got two radios six batterys and two convertacomms and 3 radio speaker mikes.looks like i will have to look around for something i can use in the uk.if i was to get a friend to stick these on ebay can anyone give me a guide price,taking in note im in the uk and work in pounds not dollars.if theres anything anyone wants to know about them i dont mind reading the codeplug again.These are the half keypad models.

They probably used the encryption in simplex mode, and ran analog through the Tait repeaters.

Your HOST and DSP revisions and Flashcode indicate a conventional VSELP radio. Those typically go for between US$300-$500 here, which, according to XE.com, comes out to 149.451 and 249.08 pounds, respectively.

Probably a little lower actuallu as these are Model II's and not III's. I would subtract $150.00 US from each of those estimates.

ARE they model 2?? on the back is type PA502 the 1meg flashport sticker and the serial,six buttons on the front and display screen,ah well looks like they will be going on ebay,cheers for the advice.
