Batboard

I have a CDM1250 that a friend brought to me with a problem. I don't have the model number handy right now, but it's a VHF highband. It has recently started appearing to 'turn off' by itsself. I say appearing to because while the display goes dark, and no controls seem to do anything, you can still hear, very faintly, that it is receiving when there is traffic on the channel it was on when it went down. The guy said that he could sometimes get the display to come back on by pushing on the face of the radio, but the controls are still inoperative, and he has to remove and reapply power for everything to go back to normal. The problem seems to occur randomly. I haven't seen the problem myself, but it's hooked up on my bench running now, waiting for it to 'go dead' again. Any ideas on where to start? No obvious bad solder joints, like I expected to find. Has this been a problem for anyone else?

check the gasket around the battery terminals, is it orange or blue? if it's orange you will probablly need to install the contaminant kit. if it's blue then i'd clean the contacts on the battery and see if there is a short in the volume knob.

I have seen this exact problem when the board in the control head wasn't properly seated. Pop the head off the radio and check to make sure the board is seated in all the slots.

The radio I saw had no display, low receive audio and no control what so ever. I was tipped off when the radio came to life while trying to plug the microphone back in I was putting pressure on the control head around the volume control / mic jack. After seating the board properly it worked great and it has never came back. It came right from /\/\ that way.

I've seen similar issues when the ribbon cable connecting the control head to the radio wasn't seated properly.

I'm almost positive that the board was seated properly, and I am positive that the ribbon cable was seated properly. Thanks for the ideas!
