Hello,

So after years of retirement, I bring my old trusty GP300 back into service. One problem, the internal mic does not work. Using the lapel mic it's fine. So my first thought is to swap out the mic from my old UHF GP. Still doesn't work. Tried once more with a P110 and still no. I'm sure the UHF and P110 mic were good before swapping.

Now here is a strange thing. I can blow into the microphone and the audio comes through, however when I talk, just noise (like white noise).

Like I said with the lapel mic, everything is perfect. I would however, rather not use the lapel 24-7.

I looked at the service option in the programming and it has a mic gain of 0. I tried to change this to +3 and even +6. How do you program it into the radio?

IIRC, the internal mic path passes thru the Access. jack; maybe try cleaning that with some anti-flooby-gunk spray & some sort of very, very, very tiny brush.

rescuer, mdz is right on the money... Problem is more than likely a dirty jack on radio. I have fought those for a while now. Clean it, and it shall work.... ( for a while, probably).

Check the mic hole in the front housing. If the hole is clogged, it will cause mic not to pick up voice.

Ok, thanks for the help so far. Tried cleaning the lapel mic connector and cleaned out the mic hole.

Discovered one issue that may or may not be a problem.

Like I said before, using the lapel mic is fine. I tried to talk on the lapel mic by pushing the PTT on the radio and no voice. I've got signal but no voice is tranmitted. The same as trying to talk without the lapel. I tried pushing the lapel PTT and talking in the radio mic but still no voice.

Only way to transmit voice is to push the lapel PTT and talk into the lapel mic.

The way GP300's have feel in price I might just try to buy a working one an use this one as a 15 channel scanner.

I've also seen few of these radios with similar problems. Most of those have had either dirty or oxidated switch on the smaller (=mic) connector so it does not reconnect microphone path when lapel mic is disconnected.

Sometimes it is better to replace the whole damn connector to new one, but I must say that it is quite tricky to get done without making a mess.. Tight spaces, lots of surface to be heated with solder tip etc..
