When operating a Desktrac console directly from the front (local mic), does it act as a tone remote? I know most/many are equipped to use tone remotes, but didnt know if using a "local" mic went thru the tone remote board or directly into the maxtrac itself.

My two bits worth:
The front panel mike jack (Local Control) is connected directly to the radio chassis.
The DC, Tone Remote, or Trunking Control board parallels the local mike and speaker.
The Tone Remote Control board can not generate the necessary keying tones.
This is true in general for all base/repeater stations.

If you're asking if the remotes can hear the traffic on the built-in desktrac microphone when you press the TRANSMIT button, yes, they can... I have this configuration working on my desk at work right now, and when I press TRANSMIT on the front of the desktrac and speak into it's local mic, the remotes hear my audio.

I cannot speak for the local mic jack, I'll test that tomorrow and post my results.

Not sure about Desktracs, but Consolettes have DIP settings that enable/disable local audio to the wireline...I'm sure someone else can verify that for a Desktrac.

I'm just asking if the transmitted audio, from either a physical remote mic (ex hmn9030a) travels thru the tone remote (or the thing that clicks or beeps when you de-key). So I see that a physical remote mic to the unit goes thru the radio - is this also true for the button that's on the front of the unit that enables the 'true' local mic?

YES, it does.

I have confirmed that a Desktrac with a tone remote on it does the following:

When pressing the TRANSMIT button on the front of the desktrac and speaking into desktrac's local mic, the audio from the local mic is routed out the tone remote and the transmitter.

When transmitting on a microphone plugged into the front of the desktrac, the audio is routed out the tone remote and the transmitter.

So yes, the desktrac does function "as it's own remote" in concert with the remotes connected to the ACCY port on the tone remote board in the desktrac.

Hope that answers your questions. I tested this personally using a Desktrac base station connected to Centracom.
