Spectra A9 programming problem

Post by STEVE W »

I have a mid power Spectra with an A9 head, ver6.16 firmware, I have my zones programmed and they seem to be working proper but my problem is with the zone up and down buttons. I set up the "7" and "8" keys to perform these functions but now the numeber functions of these buttons are gone, such as the direct entry and dtmf. What do I do to get this back.

Thanks for all the help from all the experts

Probably just the way it is. I programmed 3 keypad buttons for mode XX and lost using the numbers as well for hot keypad mode entry (ie hold down the home button and then punch in your desired mode #). Did numerous units this way and they all behave the same way.

I have a high power UHF Spectra A-9 that I programmed the same way and have the same problem. I don't remember exactly, but I think the zone up and down can not be programmed along the top row of buttons either. You can program a zone button there though.

I have the zn up and zn down on the 7&8 buttons. Also if there is some modes that are in more than more than one zone how is direct entry to the mode going to know what zone I want. Do I have to get a DEK box and use that for zone control so I can have full use of the keypad, not so much for dtmf but for direct mode entry

What radios do you own?: Motorola, Icom, Sunair (HF).

Loss of the 'number' function of keypad buttons, on X9000 heads, programmed for anything other than 'Blank' is, unfortunately, normal.

There are a couple of options you can use to work with switching zones on a 9000 head.

(1) Get a DEK. You can easily program Zone Up/Dn on any DEK key.

(2) Change out your control head for an HCN1047 trunking-style. These can easily be reprogrammed to conventional operation by first blanking the EEPROM, and then programming as normal. The 1047's have an additional rocker which can be programmed for Zone Up/Dn. I know because I've done it on two of my own radios.

Happy tweaking.
