XTS2500 Mod 1.5 ADP Programming

Post by SDOG »

Hello,
We have xts2500I portables with ADP encryption installed. These radios are are flashed with IMBE p25 CAI and ADP encryption. My question is.. I have set up a personality as ASTRO with ADP enabled. Once I program the radio and switch to that channel, I get key fail. Do i need a special key loader, or do I set it up through the CPS? I can send a codeplug if needed to help with my problem.

Thanks!!!!!

Ah,
you need a KVL for that otherwise it wouldn't be too secure would it?

What radios do you own?: Mocom 70 w/scan!!

If the radio is flashed for ADP, you will enter the key in the CPS, no keyloader needed (that is the way my 5000 works). If it is hardware ADP, then I believe you will need the KVL.

ADP

Jim's correct.

ADP can also be ordered as a software flash, or as an algo installed on a UCM board. In this case of the second, you would load a key with a KVL3K+ with ADP installed.

First youll need to know which of the above flavors your ADP is.

It is the software based encryption. I went back in and entered a numeric code and it works as it is supposed to. Thanks to all who replied!!

Is the SW based ADP key dispayed when you read a radio, or is it left out? If it shows, that sounds like a good enough reason to stick with a UCM based encryption.

key displayed

I played with it a little and just verified that there are 3 fields to choose pertaining to display of key. I assume that it applies to the ADP also but will have to try to select them and see.

No the radio does not show the key contents. It does show what I named the key..

After messing with the software based ADP, we found that you need to type in all 8 keys in the ADP key area. We started off with all new radios and found that if you type in just a single code (and leave the other codes as **********), you will eventually see Key Fail show up (it takes several days). The "Fix" was to type in all 8 key codes, even though you might be just using a single code. I didn't see anything in the documentation talking about the use of keys. We discovered this after messing with this over a week of time. Oh, BTW, to erase all the key codes, hold in the side purple button as well as the top orange button while turning on the radio. This clears all keys that we put in by the CPS. Don't do this unless you have te CPS and know what the 10 digit key values were. You've been warned.
Another item: Make sure you can see all 10 digits of information (versus just **********) in the code keys area when you are programming a radio with software ADP. This is important, because if you read a radio with keys, and then attempt to clone it into an other radio, the keys don't clone over to the next radio. If you want to clone many radios with the same keys, you must make sure the KEY codes are viewable and are not just ********* in the KEY code areas. Once we did this, we stopped having KEY FAIL issues. If you have typed in the keys, and they are viewable in your CPS screen, you can save the code plug to a disc file and it will retain viewable KEYS in the ADP key area. You can recall this file and then clone this into more radios. However, if you read a radio, and then look at the ADP software keys, you will see ************ for the values. The CPS doesn't allow you to see the ADP keys as read from a radio, and as such, you can't clone the keys into another radio either.

I have had the same single ADP key in my 2500 since March and I've seen no keyfail messages
