DES vs DVP-XL - Range Comparison?

Post by Cowboy »

I was messing around with this over the weekend. The majority of my Sabers have DES modules in them (non-XL variant) while 2 of them have DVP-XL modules. For sheer distance line of sight, I was getting about 20% better range with the DVP-XL radios than the straight DES radios. Will I notice the same improvement in range by switching everything to DES-XL or should I swap everything out to DVP-XL as the modules seem to be just as plentiful on eBay.

Thanks!

The XL variety does have the edge in distance. DES-XL and DVP-XL should have the same distance. I'm surprised you've seen that much
DVP-xl stuff on EBay as it's relatively rare compared to DES-xl which was used by Military and Gov't. in large numbers. It took me over a year of looking on EBay to get a DVP-xl keyloader, DEs-xl loaders are always available.

Any of them with the XL will have better range, I have been told by some techs from those 3 letter agencies that a sync pulse is sent along with the digital data to help prevent dropouts.
