I just tested out my Motorola Vhf model 2 XTS5000R at Dayton Hamfest in digital mode and the works great. However when asking around If anyone had a Motorola Vhf stubby antenna for sale for use with my public safety mic, I was advise that I should never use a public safety mic with a stubby vhf antenna because It can hurt me. Does anyone have any Idea how It's possible that I could hurt myself using a public safety mic with vhf stubby antenna on my XTS5000R?.

I remember reading somewere on these fourms that Motorola doesn't recomend using a public safety mic on Vhf band radio's but they didn't state any reason?.

Thanks.

Some believe that RF energy in close proximity to the human
brain can have long-term negative effects. Others say
this is baloney.

As to VHF vs UHF damage I have no idea what any supposed
differences might be. Remember we're talking about radio
transmissions, usually under 7 watts, that last ten or fifteen
seconds, unless you're an airtime hog who likes to run down
his battery by talking longer.

And I feel the way you do about digital; it sounds great.

Thanks for the reply. I've used a public safety mic many time's with a stubby antenna on Uhf band so I guess I cant do anymore damage then that has already been done. Thanks.

I think there were issues with matching and reflected power when it came to public safety mics on VHF, and thats why it's discouraged...

Yeah, it's not a safety issue, all things equal, higher frequency signals are generally accepted to have more potential danger than lower frequencies.
