astro saber codeplug question

Im trying to get around a Codeplug to New error, i have cps4 and lab 3.04. I found a codeplug that will load in lab, but when i put it in the radio and then read it with cps and then try and re-write the radio it gives me the error of "Feature set of codeplug and radio are diffrent". Anyone have any suggestions? I dont want to force a diffrent codeplug in, because the radio's serial number NEEDS to remain the same.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks,
Brian

You've got me kind of confused by what you're doing. Could you try to clarify what you're doing?

Really the only way to "downgrade" a radio (to get around Codeplug Too New), that I'm aware of, is to cram an older codeplug into the radio. It doesn't have to be readable by Lab (unless you intend to do your programming with Lab), it just has to be readable by whatever you're using to program the radio (CPS 4, in your case). You let Lab 'blindly' manipulate things 'with no pack/unpack,' which means it won't try to make sense of the data.

I'm not sure what you're doing, but I don't see any way of getting around the 'Codeplug too New' error without either upgrading your CPS to whatever the radio was last programmed with, or forcing in something older with Lab.

It looks like you can manipulate the radio's serial number outside of Lab if you're somewhat technically adept. (I've never done it myself, though, so I'm not quite sure how it's done, I've just seen references to it.)

thats the thing though, it was programed with cps5 and i only have 4, the serial number needs to be the same so there-for i cant cram one in.

Ive seen the references to changing the serial, but it seems when ever i try to pm someone about it, no one will elaborate on how to do it, or maybe do it for me.... Who knows

I spent a long time with Lab and ASTRO RSS 09.03 trying to make 09.03 read a codeplug last written with 09.05. I tried all sorts of crazy stuff, but the only two errors I could get were "Codeplug too New" (in RSS) or "FAIL 01/92" on the radio. Unless you're willing to spend some time rooting around with a hex editor trying to discover something no one else has, there's really nothing you can do but upgrade your RSS or force in and old codeplug.

Out of wild curiosity (there's no "u" in that word?!), why does the serial number need to be the same? I never bothered to correct mine because it doesn't matter for what I do.

Figuring this out has been on my "Someday/Maybe" to-do list for a long time now. Maybe I'll finally take the time to figure it out.
