Add alert tone to Gold Elite?

Does anyone know if its possible to add a custom alert tone to a Gold Elite system? Our current system has the default single beep and repeating beep, but we'd like to add a third sound to indicate special calls. Our Motorola rep claims that there is no way to do it - two sounds is all the system is capable of. Doesn't seem kosher to me.
Any help that might be able to point me in the right general direction would be greatly appreciated.

Great information... I'm wondering if we can add our own tone somehow? Is it possible to upload a wav file or other format sound file, or are we just limited to those 3?

you could do it if you really tried to but the tones are software not wav files. I'm sure it wouldnt be too hard to record a wav file on the PC, loop it to play continuosly and us an aux I/O to connect it to tx audio.

As an alternative. take a look at the CFSound III by ACS.
http://www.cfsound.com/index_CFSound.asp It will store wav files and can be optioned to play on dry contact, loop, or via serial. I have a couple in use and can't say anything bad about them other then the price.

Centracom alert tones are generated on the BIM if I recall correctly. Late 80's BIM's have a different pitch Alert 1 & Alert 3 than late 90's/2000+ BIM's do (where alert 1 & 3 are the same pitch, with alert 1 being steady and alert 3 being pulsed).
You can use an external paging input device to generate alert tones.
You could also use Quik Call I as an alert tone by enabling Quik Call I and just generating a group page, which is a steady pair of tones for a few seconds. Depending on which tone pair you use, it can sound similar to the old "Emergency Broadcast System" alert tones.

How would this be interfaced into the Gold Elite audio path?

Use an aux output to trigger the unit. (there are several local ones on the back of the console.
There is also some adio inputs that can be used.
So set up an aux button as the alert feature.

I've done this on a system that requried a distictive EVAC tone for the Fire department. We used the Ext_Page_In on the CIEs. We added a external tone generators that were activated by a local Aux I/O relay in the CIE. We also added a time delay so the EVAC tone would play for the Fire department mandated time. This way each operator was able to select what channel, and activate the tone by clicking on an Aux I/O button on the Gold Elite screen. The button required the saftey to be disabled first. Later we also added a cancel button. Worked well. The tone generator was a MTG-10 from Viking Electronics, and the timer you can get from Altronix (model 6062). All componets fit inside the CIEs.
Good Luck!

Motorola had an SP "Beeper Board" that some customers had for their channel marker tones... It encoded a rapid DTMF string (generally all the same digit) and that was the channel marker. Used the external page and Aux I/O of the CIE... Generally they were installed in II+ CRT CIE's... Sure would love to get ahold of one.
