We have just recieved our new XTL5000's with W9 heads for our trucks and stations. Heres the problem.
Originally we had Maxtracs installed in the stations with 2 old style motorola metal remote mount mic/speaker boxes.
the mic/speaker sets used 4 wires (black = Ground for mic low, speaker low. Red = PTT. Green = mic high. White = Speaker high).The speakers were powered from a RS PA amplifier. this setup worked fine for the maxtracs, but for the XTL5000's I cant ground any of the speaker leads. I have a isolation transformer taped into the speaker leads off of the W9 head. This fixes my problem of not grounding any of the speaker leads but I dont have a pinout of the rear connector so i am unshure of what pins are going to be the Ground,PTT,Mic high.

If any one has the pinout for the XTL5000 plese let me know, We are going to the new 700mhz system on the 11th and i need to get the station radios installed and tested before then.

I will point out that you will probably need to check out just how the radio is programmed to use the rear
accessory connector. If you go into the program and read the radio. Then select the "radio configuration"
and then double click the "radio wide" selection. Next go to the "Advanced" tab and look down at the
bottom of the window. The Aux PTT audio source should be set to "AUX_MIC". The next line down
for the Aux Transmit Sensitivity should be set to "80 mV".

If the aux mic selection is not set this way, you will not have any audio available from the rear 26 pin
accessory connector.

The pin outs are as follows:

1 = DGND
2 = BUS +
3 = BUS -
9 = BUSY
14 = AGND
15 = EM
16 = PTT
20 = RX audio hi (speaker wires)
23 = TX audio hi
24 = SW B+
25 = IGN (probably not needed)
26 = RX audio low (speaker wires)

Hope this is what your looking for.

On another note, I have found that a number of XTL mobiles don't seem to do over 4 KHz of TX deviation.
In talking with a number of agencies, their radios do the same thing. Played with all sorts of programming
combinations. Am coming to the conclusion that this is an offshoot of the way Motorola sets up the radio
with their tuning program. In looking at it, the manual says to set the radio to 2.75 to 2.88 KHz deviation
in the procedure in the program. Beginning to think this may be slightly wrong.

So far i have all stations working. When all the wires were ran for the station thesy used 6 conductor cable. Worked out perfect because i only needed 5 wires. I was able to use GND,PTT and MIC HI on 3 and 2 for the audio. Only question i have is should i have used Analog Ground (14) in stead of Digital Ground (1) for the PTT and Mic Hi circuit. I didnt know that pin 1 was the DGND until JIM202 Replied. (Thanks JIM)

Also, the mics on all of the boxes are older motorola magnetic type (originally the radios were lo-Band 33Mhz when the station was built). Most of the mics i see today are the condenser type, Would this be a problem to use these old mics with the new xtl5000 radios. Only reason im asking is some older radios had a switch that selected between the two different types of mics, I don't do the programming part so i dont know if this is a software thing.
