New York State MTA Police radio?
Just out of curiosity.. would anyone know what type of radio the NYS MTA Police are using? I think it might me GE. Seems like they primarily use simplex even with their dispatch.
Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
i agree with GE, however, NYSPD uses similar if not the same radio and has M/A Com speaker mic's... while i am no pro at any companies products, are GE and M/A Com the same?
Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
I have a friend who works for NYS MTA, apparently, they use GE and Motorola ... he has a MT2000 (for a portable anyway).

Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
There are a number of Jedi top display MT2000 radios floating around that say MTA Police on them, so I'd say That's at least one radio they use.
Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
I saw an MTA police officer the other day and he had what appeared to be VHF GE radio. It had a front display that was on a slant if that makes any sense. Looked kind of like a big and bulky radio.

Most MTA PD officers I've seen at Penn Station and GCT carries the M-RK, both limited and full keypad versions.
Yes they are VHF.

Most RR and RR-related comms are on 160/161 mHz.
Often also applies to local RR, subway lines, etc.
In DC the leaky coax simplex systems for transit train comms
are on 160; their police are on 161.385 CSQ with a separate
channel with PL for input.

As Tom said MTA Police (prevously Long Island RR Police in many locations)use the VHF railroad freq's.
They also run UHF mobile extenders. (They also offer free annual ride passes to area LEO's since some lunatic shot up one of their trains in 1993).

I spoke with an MTA officer about this and he had a GE M-RK.
Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
Cool its an interesting looking radio. I wonder how wel it performs.
Re: New York State MTA Police radio?
They are great radios and play well in the ham bands.
They are not as tough as the M-PA and are still a tad expensive on the used market but prices have been steadily declining since Vertex has flooded the market with inexpensive portables.
When large agencies surplus them they show up on Ebay.
