Astro Net ID Programming Question

Hi All,

I am trying to add an ID to our agencies radios for an additional user who doesn't want to hear the traffic on our repeater. I assumed if I set up an additional mode with the same configuration as one of our current one's and just changed the ID in the zone/mode field all would be good. This does not seem to be the case. Is there some programming that needs to be done on the repeater as well, to pass the new ID?

Thanks for all the help

Keith

After removing the useless replies...

I would recommend that you take a look at the ASTRO Talkgroup operation, rather than simply changing the NAC. That would be the Right Way to do things. I believe the Quantars can be locked to only pass certain NACs, but I'm not certain on that one.

Thanks,

I will give it a try. Do you know if that will require any additional programming on the repeater side, or just on the end user end?

If you use talkgroups and don't change the NAC, I don't believe you'll have to do anything on the repeater end. However, you likely will need to reprogram all subscriber units to know what to do with the talkgroups. I'm not sure what a subscriber unit with TGs disabled will do when presented with channel data containing a TG...

If you have one radio that isn't programmed for TG operations, it should unsquelch on any TG transmission (with the right NAC), but the radios programmed for the TG operation shouldn't be able to hear the non-TG enabled radio. The way that I look at it, the TG is like a 3rd squech (behind signal & NAC). You should be able to program a radio with TGID 65535 for an "all talk" (and maybe "hear all") also (haven't tried that one though - maybe I'll try tonight).
