HT1250 Issues

I just bought an HT1250 from the same guy as my good friend gatekeep, and gatekeep just told me that the radio he bought was a "recased version 1 HT1250 with upgraded firmware." His radio was being programmed, and he thinks the radio (R05.00.03 firmware) caused the CPS to crash (R06.04.00 CPS) Now his radio is stuck with the error "EEPRM CS ERROR" and he can't get it to work again. I'm going to loan him mine so we can have mine cloned into his, but he suspects that the brass insert that accessories screw into has touched the board and this caused the error. Either that or the radio is just an old board. We both bought radios from D. Hatten. If anyone has any insight into possible solutions to this problem, please let me know ASAP. I can't afford a $350 brick, or a service call to /\/\'s depot. I'm personally going to be using my IBM Win2k3 server to program the radio as it is the only machine in my house with a real serial port. Is that a bad idea? It took me 3 months to save up for this radio, so this is a very big deal to me. Thanks
