Hi Folks,

[ Disclaimer: I've already read the many threads about the legality of the GP68 but I'm a ham and obey the laws like others.. ]

My question: it appears I cannot enter Channel Mode on my GP68. Flicking the Mode/Backspace key is supposed to switch between Channel Mode and Frequency Mode but I'm stuck in Frequency Mode, though I can see the 20 (currently blank) channels when going into one of the programming modes.

My next question: if the (in)famous jumper R417 is still connected, would this cause the behavior above? And would removing that jumper re-enable the Channel Mode, or am I completely S.O.L. ?

I am able to enter frequencies in the Frequency mode, transmit, use PL tones, etc, and it works great except that I can't enter/save channels. Great radio for under $100, so far.

Go over to: "www.batlabs.com" and look under the model specific area. The entire manual for the GP68 is there. I believe it has the answer you seek.

Dumb newbie thing--read the manual first. Now I'm up and running, thanks for your help. This seems like a great radio.

The GP68 was/is a good radio. The only thing it lacks is
an alpha display which many of us find frustrating. Many
GP68s (the earlier ones) carried FCC type acceptance labels,
but later ones did not. All GP68s are legal for the ham bands.
Motorola never intended the radio to be sold in the USA but
it got in anyway; they made a "sister" radio, the AP68, for
ham use here but next to none was ever sold. No one has
ever figured out how/why Motorola got the GP68 type
accepted for the USA then didn't sell it here; it's one of
those great mysteries of marketing.

I have a sick gp 68. Any one here willing to work on one for a reasonable cost?
