MT2000 "The RSS has detected an incompatible codeplug"

Hi all:
I have an MT2000 VHF radio, and bought the most recent version of MTSX RSS. I also have the RIB and a DOS computer. But everytime the RSS reads the codeplug, it says "The RSS has detected an incompatible codeplug. Make sure you are using the correct version of RSS" (or something similar). I have had a friend in the tech shop try to read it with older MTSX RSS 6.07, 6.00, and I think 5.something, but this same message always comes up.
Now, here's the twist. An old, old version of MTSX _LAB_ dating from 1993 has no trouble at all reading and writing to the radio, using _my_ RIB and cables. So there's nothing wrong with the radio, the RIB, or the cables. Does anyone know what's going on? I would prefer to program the radio myself with my software, but something's not working out.
Thanks in advance,
Jon.
