Astro Saber 3 Analog and Digital Question?

Hello all,

I have recently upgraded my personal radio to an AS3 which is IMBE P-25. I am aware that this radio can TX and RX in either analog or digital. If I were to use it on regular conventional frequencies, would I or would I not have to program the radio for analog for that frequency. What I am asking is basically, if I am using a frequency where all other radios (regular sabers, kenwood, etc.) are txing and rxing in analog, and I program my radio to tx and rx digital, will myself and other users be able to communicate, or do I have to program my radio to tx and rx in analog for this particular frequency?

I hope I didn't throw too many ppl through loops there. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

when programming up the radio you can set the personality (frequency/channel) to either Analog or Digital TX, but not both, but you can set the RX to either Analog, Digital, or Mixed-Mode receive

So in other words, to be able to talk digital and analog on a frequency you would need instances of the personality in the radio, one would be digital one would be analog.

Hope that helps.

Set the receive on all channels to Mixed Mode.
Have all your other radios set the same way.
You will hear any one on any channel regardless
of which mode they're using, P25 or analog.
Set the transmit to P25 for the channels on which
you don't want anyone with an analog-receive-only radio to
hear what your group is doing/saying.
That's all there is to it.
