Dispatch wireless mic suggestions

Looking for suggestions on a wireless mic that a dispatcher can use. Have a request to
not be tied by wire to the console and still be able to key and talk over the radio.

I remember a discussion in the past on this subject, but the searches I have done on
here have not produced any results.

Battery life is a consideration.

You can get a 900 mhz wireless headset from Zetron.

Several dispatch centers around here use the wireless headset adapter from Plantronics (CA12CD). They seem to be selling well around the country since our's were on backorder for about 3 months. Anyway, they support a standard 6-wire connection to consoles like Motorola Centracom Gold Elite. They have a PTT button on the remote and work with existing headsets. Just use them to replace the wired adapter.

They come with 2 batteries and 2 charging wells on the base. We get at least 8 hours on a single battery charge and often approaching 12 hours or more depending on amount of talk time. We just swap batteries at shift change unless someone has a problem.

I ordered two of these (Plantronics CA12CD) for my dispatch center. They seem to work well and have reasonable range within the building.

The salesman was very helpful, discounted the shipping and verified in-stock before closing the deal. They are also on GSA contract (a must for me). $341.70 + s&h with 14 in stock at post time.

the Plantronics CA12CD looks like the perfect public safety solution to me. I plan to order one to check it out when I get the chance.

We are currently testing the Plantronics CA10CD, and we are not having the best luck with it. The battery only has a 6 hour talk time, so we have to change the battery half way through an 8 hour shift. The battery doubles as the belt clip, and it is easy for the dispatcher to accidentally knock it off and possibly damage it. We ended up getting a tight leather case that holds the whole thing together. That helped, but changing the battery became that much more slow and difficult. Not a good thing when the battery is being changed out 6 times a day. I do not think that we will be using the CA10CD for much longer.

We tried the CA10 some time back with similar results. The battery just didn't last long enough. If I remember correctly, it also didn't support the PTT function. Our dispatchers really like having that.

We have found the corresponding 6-wire WIRED adapter with PTT switch is a nice thing to have (SHS1890-10). That gives you an option of going wired instead of wireless with all the same basic functions.

We generally have between 7 to 11 wireless in operation at one time and haven't had any problems except people wandering away from the console they were connected to and forgetting they can't just answer the phone or radio at another console they aren't connected to!
