Hi guys. I've got a low-band 99 channel MT1000 that is behaving oddly. I haven't tried messing with RSS yet as I haven't had a chance. However, with a fully charged battery when you turn the radio on, the screen just displays "88" with "S" and "P" on the screen. No buttons do anything except the backlight button, and there's no audio or TX at all.

The person I got the radio from told me he was trying to make it go into the 6m ham band and this is probably what the error is, and I believe that's the case. However, does anyone have any other ideas? I'm going to mess with it when I get home this evening, but just in case it isn't the bandsplit problem, I'd like to have a couple of other ideas to try.

Off hand, I'd have to say it's in a self-check loop, which would indeed indicate a bad codeplug. I would, however, expect it to give it a continuous tone if it has had the wrong bandsplit forced into it. If it is the wrong bandsplit, it shouldn't be any problem to force a codeplug with the correct bandsplit in and recover it.

Well, I did some messing around last night and was able to get the radio to read but it wasn't easy!

To make a long story short, there was a frequency around 53MHz programmed in that the radio wasn't very happy about. But, removing that frequency and putting the codeplug back in solved the problem and I'm good to go now.

Glad to hear you got it working. It's usually easier to plug an archived codeplug in than try to get it to read. I forgot when I first replied to you that this topic is covered over on the Batwing Laboratories main site, and a few methods for recovering the Genesis series radios is given, IIRC.

Indeed it is! The trick that worked for me that I forgot to mention was unplugging the two white plugs that connect the VCO. The radio got pretty pissed off, but at least I was able to reprogram it.
