Low-Band MT1000 conversion

Hi guys. I've got a 42-50MHz 99 channel MT1000 that I'd like to use on 6m. Currently, it will work up about 52.500MHz, but anything higher and it gets pissed off. The lowest commercial frequency I would require is 46MHz, so I'm wondering if there is a way to bring the bottom end of the bandsplit up 4 MHz in hopes of making it play nice up to 54MHz.

I've searched and found a lot of great information but I've not come across anyone who has been successful and documented the proceedures required. I assume that I'm going to have to look at hardware modifications for this.

Thanks :)

I have a Word document by WB8VLC on this. Mike might even be here to speak for himself. PM your email address and I'll send it as an attachment.

yeah I'm here.

It should work on the 99 channel MT1000 although all I had to convert were the 6 channel models.

If Jk didn't get a copy to you then PM me and I'll send one your way.

Can it be brought down to the 39.0000 range??

Maybe, but it'd sure be a waste of a high split radio. Find a mid split one instead and be done with it.

Do they make a Mid split? I have seen 30-36 and 42-50...What is the Mid split??

36 - 42 MHz. The transceiver circuit board kit # was NUB6092A which is NLA

I'd LOVE a copy of that conversion doc as well.

Those are the ones the hams don't want. If you find one, it should be yours for a song since there's less demand for them.

I'm not sure if you've had a chance to email it or not, but gmail sometimes gets bitchy with certain attachments. Try renaming it to a .txt file or something. [email protected] . Thanks again!

I sent it this morning when I got home from work (<-- pic of me at work) just after midnight. I'll try again in a zip file.

Can it be moved to 39MHz you ask ?

Yes,

They can be moved all over the various sub-bands. I took a mid split and modified it for 29 to 30 MHz operation.

It's more trouble as the Receiver needed a lot of cap and inductor changes but the PA was more forgiving and didn't need any major mods, so yes it can be moved to another sub-band split.

If you don't have the equipment to sweep the front end then it's a b%$#H to convert the RX to another sub-band but if you have a free weekend then it can be done.

Now if you meant can it be stretched from 39 to 54MHz, no the VCO is not that wide without some more major redesign.

I just wanted to know if it could be tweaked to perform from 39.0000 to 46.9900.

I never tried to stretch the operation between 2 sub bands only moving the subbands up or down a couple of percent or moving from one sub band to another.
