Will this XTS5000 do MDC?

Can anyone tell me if this one will do MDC1200 encode AND decode?

XTS5000 model 2
Host/dsp R02.20.00
Flash 540001-000400-0

It has the H14 option needed for decoding mdc - but I have heard some people saying that it needs newer firmware than it has - and someone that it does not!!!
It is not an 123abc radio - it has an real S/N

Thanks
Kenneth

H14 is Digital ID display which has absolutly nothing to do with MDC. Digital ID is just that a DIGITAL ID in Digital IMBE operation. It is not dependent on MDC.

All XTS5000's with displays,to the best of my knowledge, are capable of displaying MDC. This should not be firmware dependent.

THat would be nice - I am asking this because I heard something about the firmware has to be at least R04 or R05

h14 is required to display ANY id as far as I know, my as3 did mdc, but would not display the decoded id until h14 was added, also had an xtl we sold a customer, and had to later order an h14 upgrade to get id display.

I have never seen a 5000 with firmware R02.20 or anything close to that encode MDC. You can set it up in the CPS until you are blue in the face, but it still wont send the data burst.. I have seen one with firmware somewhere in the 3's that would do MDC, but with that old of firmware, it's hit or miss.

H14 is needed if you want to decode MDC ID's or aliases from another radios MDC burst..

That means as far as the MDC encode/decode of this particular one it is not for sure that it does this - allthough it has the H14 option? One should think it could do mdc - when it is flashed with H14 - no matter the firmware?? Does anyone know a little more about this???

Yes, I'll tell you a little more about it.... Version R02.20 firmware is one of the very early releases. There are more features than just MDC that dont function with this early of a release..

Just because the radio has H14, that doesn't mean a thing in terms of "it should be able to do MDC"... You can reflash that radio with a number of options, but that doesn't mean they will all work.. Firmware plays a big part in there... Search the board for XTS5000 MDC.. This has come up in the past about what version firmware started supporting MDC..

Try programming a personality with an MDC system on that radio.. I can gaurantee you wont be sending any MDC with that version firmware..

I got a XTS5000 with HOST/DSP R02.20.00 before with H14 but it won't do MDC until I upgrade its firmware to R09.

MDC wasn't a supported option until firmware version 4.00.00. We had to flash several hundred 2500 & 5000 units from 3.50.00 to 4.00.00 several years back in order to get the MDC to work. It was known at the time of order that this would needed to be done.
