Questions on having an XTS3000 Flashed

Hello Guys,

This is my first post on the board so please be gentle :-) LOL.... I have searched for, information regarding flashing and flash upgrades for Flashport (high end radios) however, I am still confused. I have a few basic questions...

1. To have a Flashport radio upgraded do you have to be the original owner? Or can the dealer or me flash a radio, without being the original owner. I would like to learn how to do it myself

2. How expensive is it to have a used XTS-3000 Flashed for Digital ID Display and Quickcall, 2?

3. Is there anyone on the board (dealers) who have the ability to Flash an XTS3000? That I might be able to send it out to and about how much it would cost, I am not the original owner?

4. If you have an XTS series radio or Astro Saber, without an encryption module, (DES, or DES-XL or any of the other modules) does the radio need to be flashed to accept a module or if you put a module in does the hardware accept it without the flash?

Well, I think that is about all the questions I have for now, Thanks in advance..... Have a happy Labor Day....

Joe

1) You don't have to be the original owner to have it reflashed. However, if the radio was reported to Motorola as stolen, you can say good bye to it.

2) I'm not sure off-hand, but figure around $70 for the digital ID display, and the 3ks are not capable of QCII, you'd have to step up the the 5ks.

4) XTS radios don't need to be flashed to accept encryption, with one caveat. If you need multi-key, then you need the multi-key flash upgrade.

If you ever decide to flash it yourself, you will also need at smartrib, which runs close to $300. So unless you're reflashing multiple radios often, it might just be cheaper to send it out.

I hope this helps you, and welcome to the board.

Luie, Thanks for the info and the warm welcome to the board. Actually I have been lurking for an while, but really had nothing to ask... But I think my buddy has a smart rib, but he never flashed anything.. So maybe I can be the first to try it out.. Here goes a stupid question.. Where do I get the flash upgrade from... (the radios I bought were from a government auction, and the only feature I had wanted was the Digital ID Display so I can read the MDC, and the Astro ID's. Would I have to purchase these from Motorola or any shop? Thanks again..
