Saber "model swapping"

I've purchased a couple of Sabers on Ebay (still awaiting shipment), a VHF Systems Saber II, and a UHF Saber III. What I want to know is, can I "swap" them? I would like for the VHF to be a III, and don't mind "downgrading" the UHF to a II. Is this possible, or would I be better off maybe trying to trade the Systems Saber II for a "regular" Saber III?

There is no such thing as a Systems saber II either a I or a III. You can put a Saber II case on a SystemsII but then you loose all the keypad funtions other than the 3 orange buttons.

I'm sorry, you're right, I put that backwards. It is a UHF Systems Saber III, and a VHF Saber II. Either way, can I make the VHF a III and the UHF a II by swapping parts between them?

You would have to change the front shield . It can be done with Sabers but not saber to systems.

IF your VHF Saber II has an 8K control board, all you have to do is put it into a saber III case and reprogram the radio.

OK, I think you've answered my questions. Thanks!

I finally got my Sabers today, and the question I asked is moot. Both radios are VHF. The seller had a typo in the item description. She had the model # of the Systems Saber III listed as "H43" and the Saber II listed as "H34". Turns out that they are both "H34", so I am now the proud owner of a VHF Systems Saber III, and a VHF Saber II. Now I just have to locate the Systems Saber RSS, and I'll be all set!

One of the nice 'features' of the Saber series is that both Systems and standard Sabers can make use of all modules, EXCEPT the front shield/memory.
Encryption modules must also be properly selected as many non smartnet modules will NOT work in a systems Saber, but will work with the standard model.
IE: NTN5835, DES-XL, Smartnet (both Saber models)
NTN4714B, DES-XL, NON smartnet (standard Sabers ONLY).
Aside from minor differences, as well as a completely different RSS package(non-swappable between model types), they are identical.
NEVER attempt programming of a Systems Saber with standard Rss, and the same goes for the Systems Sabers and standard RSS...NO-NO.
Internal radio modules are the same for both Systems and standard models...swap away...go nuts.
And the normal caveat applies:....ALIGNMENT is NECESSARY.

Thanks for the tips, AEC. Luckily for me, I already knew not to try to use the standard RSS on a Systems Saber, or I'd probably already have a brick by now. However, I still haven't been able to locate the Systems Saber software

. As it stands right now, I have a Saber II programmed and in use, and a really pretty Motorola paperweight with Systems Saber on the front. It is, however, nice to know that I can swap most internal parts between them, if necessary.
