I'm wondering id a Jedi MTVA would work with an XTS5000. I'm a Trooper and we have nice 800 radios for handhelds but low band in the car. I'm tryinig to find a "cheap" way to get more use out of my 800. Any ideas?

No, it will not work. You need a NTN8560 "XTVA" and the NTN8327 "RF adapter" for that radio.

NTN8560 List is $1208.00
NTN8327 List is $140.00

Not to promote eBay too much, but there is a board member that does sell these with pretty much everything you might need for $1500.00 or so Including the HHCH. Search for XTVA and you will find it quickly.

Don't let that list price stop you, they can be found for much less if you pay attention.
