Looking for information regarding the printer port, I understand that is a serial port, but would like to know the settings and also what the port is used for, and what it prints.
Thanks Gill

The R2001D series analyzers can print any of the text based screens but not the scope or spectrum analyzer screens.

If the print option in the system screen is set for IBM/Epson, you will get a graphics print (slower than the text print) and it will print the scope and spectrum analyzer displays.

Look at the serial set up in the special functions menu.

Dave,
You must be thinking about R-2600 series analyzers which have fully digitized displays.
Waveform displays [scope and spectrum analyzer] in the R-2001 series are pure analog - directly driving the oscilloscope type display.
There is no graphics / screen digitizer in these instruments.
The printer operations are completely described in the smr-5279 supplement to the R-2001 D series Operator's Manual [68P81069A66-B]
"To print a screen, simultaneously press the 0 key and the < (left cursor) key. Any characters on the screen are printed directly. If a bar graph is displayed, the # character will be printed to show the length of the bar. Wave forms cannot be printed.
The RS-232 [printer] port is set up using Special Function "75"

Thank you all and "xmo", I have the basic operators manual for the 2001D but no supplements, and service manuals, if anyone can help me locate one it would appreciated.
I been working in an MSS shop for 23 years but only had the 2001A and C and later the 2600.
Still prefer in a lot cases the 2001 series, pickup a couple used 2014 but have a focus problem on one card and hoz. on an another.
Fixing to retire in acouple months
Thanks for help

No, I am not thinking of the R2600 series. Since the topic is R2001D/R2014D, I know that the newer processor board is used in this model. There IS a choice for the printer mode. The choice is for TEXT or IBM/Epson. The text mode is a simple ascii screen dump. The IBM/Epson mode is a graphics dump and IT WILL CAPTURE the spectrum analyzer and scope traces. However this does require an old dot matrix printer with serial interfacing. I was the first tech to service the "D" series and I was servicing it when the 2600 series came out, I know what I am talking about.
k7gil, your focus problem could be in the scope amplifier board (seldom) or the HVPS (more likely) or the CRT (also a strong possibility). The horizontal problem could be in the scope amp, scope/DVM control , front panel interface or a flex circuit.

Dave,
I'll have to respectfully disagree with you here.
Yes, there are two processor boards for the 2001D. The early board 01P22240E001 does not have DTMF or a printer port.
The newer board 01P29050H001 has both.
Firmware on the early boards is lame compared to the newer ones. On the early boards, when you select special functions, you just get a place to put in a code.
The newer firmware has a full special functions menu. In addidtion to DTMF and text based screen print, the newer analyzers also have cable fault test capability.
The newest of these instruments are the /0900 versions that have a more versatile offset generator capability.
Not only do none of the R2001D analyzers do graphics screen print, even the R2600A does not - it is also text only.
Graphics screen print was introduced on the R2600B [firmware 107 and above]

Thanks to all for the help
For Dave the focus problem was U-25 (CA3240), and for the Hoz problem it was U-28 (CA3281E)
