Use a Maxtrac type mic with a Spectra ??

Has anyone taken a bad spectra mic cord and wired it to a telephone box or similar junction box and then used a Maxtrac/GM300 mic with it? I am looking at doing this as my dept's W9 heads are mounted in an enclosed console box so the cord comes out the bottom of the console and gets stretched a lot and eventually the casing on the cord starts to go bad. So I was thinking of mounting a junction box on the outside of the console and then using a maxtrac or gm300 type mic with it.
If anyone has experience with this, I'd be interested in knowing.
Thanks
Jason

never done it that way by keeping the maxtrac cord but i've put quite a few of the black gm300 mic heads on spectras and x9000 cables and it works fine.

I'll second HLA - I've also done the black Spectra mic mods quite a few times with the black GM300 mics. I've also done the Black radius desk mic and it works fine. sglass actually has 2 of them now. (if you still have them, Seth)

I have done it both ways, either works just fine. We do all our ambulances with the 1065 compact mike instead of the Spectra mike due to location. This mod will NOT work with a T-Power though.....

Just finished installing 2 xtl 5000s and 2 MC3000s in our control tower. They preferred the palm mic to a desk mic on the MCs. I had a hard time trying to find a longer mic cord or extension so I used cat 5 cable from the MC3000 to a 4 pair telephone block. I mounted this on the front of their console and plugged the maxtrac mic into it. So far everything is working great.
This is not exactly what you are tring to do but as long as you can match the wiring configuration, mic hi, ptt, etc, it should work just fine.
