Hi

I'm having problems with some CTCSS settings on my GP380. I've got all the correct settings, frequencies etc and I have double checked these with my scanner to make sure I'm not loosing the plot! The problem is this............

When I transmit, it's being picked up by the other radios but not my scanner. When I receive, it doesn't unmute the speaker on my radio. The PL is 118.8.

I'm using the CPS software to program the radio and I'm wondering whether I've overlooked something else instead because the PL and main frequency settings are correct. I'm thinking I may have not selected the correct RX Squelch mode settings in the "Squelch" section of the Personality tab??

Any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!

Interesting. Is your scanner capable of CTCSS decode? If so, you may have the tone set wrong in it. If the radio works with other radios, it almost has to be something in the scanner.

As for RX on the radio in question, do you hear anything if you push the monitor button? If not, you may have something wrong in the radio, like a bad speaker, maybe.

I sorted it, I discovered it was down to my theory. I needed to set PL/DPL for RX Squelch mode.

My next problem is getting the volume to balance. The blip on the end of the transmission is very loud on my set yet the incoming transmissions are quiet. Also, my transmissions are very quiet to the other users. I'm going to up the mic gains and turn on ow level expansion. I've disabled the blip thing on the end, or at least I will till I can figure out a way to "balance" the volume settings correctly. It's quite annoying. I could do with a 'mixing desk' in the CPS software to balance out the volume settings. Any suggestions on this?

The GP/GM300 Software is quite annoying in general. Completely different than the American-version CPS.

I would be real careful making any TX adjustments without a service monitor. You have
no idea what the transmitter is doing without measuring the deviation. It sort of sounds
like your trying to use your scanner as a means of measuring your TX audio. This is
about the worst way you could do it.

I also question if you know how the TX mic audio should be set. You make reference
that your audio is quiet compaired to other users. Is this a wide band channel or a
narrow band channel? How is your TX audio set on the radio your talking over? Are
you authorized to transmit over this channel?

If you don't have the means to measure you TX deviation, it would be best to leave
it alone until you can measure it.
