A5 Spectra Question

Hi, I have a VHF 50watt A5 Spectra that was originally giving me a Fail001 Code. I read that this problem was usually caused by the capacitors leaking, so stupid me, I take the cover off to see whats going on and after some observation I closed the radio back up. Powered it up and got a FAIL01/90.

So I just bought another VHF 50watt A5 Spectra from a member of the RR boards. Now my question is, Can I swap the MLM board from the bad Spectra and replace it in the new Spectra? The reason I am asking is so I might be able to skip the step of getting the new radio programmed. The bad radio worked like a champ till I started getting the Fail001 code.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Danny

Yes you can but what you are describing is far more complex than reprogramming the new radio. Do you have the software to program the radio or would someone else do it?

No, I would need to have someone else program it.

If the old radio can still be read in RSS save the codeplug, then using the the clone feature clone it into your new radio. Otherwise you have to start from scratch. Is this a remote head radio and did you plug everyting back together? 01/90 is a communication failure between radio and head.

Go figure...

Okay the new radio arrived yesterday and I finally pulled the bad radio out of the car today, set it up on the workbench and put power to it just for s&g. Now I'm not getting the FAIL01/90 code anymore, the radio powers up and works but will not receive audio, I have not tested the TX in fear of further damage to the radio. I believe this is due to the leaking caps.

So basically I have 1 working radio that needs to be programmed,
and 1 radio thats programmed but needs the caps replaced. I sent a PM to Will but I believe he might be backed up. Just gotta wait and see.
