This is probably a typical newbie question but it is something that I really would like to know. I see several references to XTS5000's that are 380-470mhz, many of these are model H18QDH9PW7AN. Everything I have says that a "Q" split is 403-437mhz. Is there something I am missing? which is correct?

Each series seems to have it's own band limits, up until the XTL and XTS15/25/5000 series radios, which seem to share the same band splits. Mobile Q split was always 403-430, and the portable radios "Q" was "R", which covered 403-470.

So you need to check out the service or product information for each line of radios to see what the letters correspond to. For the most part, they are pretty standard across most radios of the same generation/time period.

Alex is correct... for Astro portables. Astro25 portables use Q to denote 380-470.

I believe that "S" split on the Astro25 portables still denotes 450-512MHz usage as well, although from what I'm told they will run nicely down to 442 ish.
