Info on Wilson Cell Amp install

We have new HP laptops in our squads with pigtails connected to a mixed band Maxrad can on the roof. We use Verizon cards in the laptops which at times lose signal. Would it be worth looking at installing Wilson cellular direct wire amps to help improve the up/down signal of the laptops? If you have done this, will the Wilson fit under say a passenger seat to keep it out of the way. Need some thoughts from this Boards' resident install experts.

thanks

I think the unit I'm running is one of the "Digital Antenna" models, but it's similar (probably identical) to the Wilsons.

Yes, it makes a substantial difference. You get about 18dB improvement on receive and it will boost power to full legal limit (3W on 800, 2W on 1900) if the cell site calls for it. These amps are smart. Downside, they're about $250.

They'll fit under the seat no problem... box is probably 5x7 at best.

I have one for my Cell phone and it works great. Fits nicely under my 2007 charger seat! I live in Vermont and cellservice sucks but it is 2000 times better with the wilson amp!

thanks guys New FY budget starts Jan 1, so I will talk to the Chief about trying at least one. We got lots of stuff jammed in our Soccer Mom  rides ( Explorers) but should be able to get the amp under the back seat.
