**Some*** MTS2000's CAN in fact decode MDC, however, it has to be flashed to do so. A flashcode is basically what options the radio has in it (Be it MDC1200, MODAT, Quick Call, Smartnet, etc. etc. A lot of MTS radios (espically on E-bay) are NOT flashed for MDC1200. Most of the MTS2000 radios off of Ebay come with a standard flashcode with basically nothing in it (but Smartnet). The MTS's WILL scan, and do trunking right of the box. However, a lot of people just prefer to just buy a HT1000 or MT2000 because these radios already do MDC signaling, etc out of the box, and have no flashcode. The HT1000 and MT2000 can NOT however decode a MDC1200 ID on the display, whereas a properly flashed MTS2000 will.
Just keep in mind a genuine MTS2000 with the proper flash is getting harder to find (one with a loaded flash is almost impossible to find).
Hope that helps !
