UHF Spectra Fail

Post by nyclt422 »

My remote UHF A7 Spectra intermittently stops working (recieving or transmitting) without any notice. Sometimes when I go to one of the 128 modes and try to transmit I get FAIL 001. It doesn't happen all the time. Could this be a power problem like from the alternator or voltage regulator ?

FAIL001 is a failure of the synth to lock. Usally caused by leaking caps. If left these caps can distroy the circuit board and adjacent componets. Can also be a out of band frequency programmed into the Spectra causing the out of lock.

I guess it's the leaking caps, the freq's are within band and I have used this radio for at least 10 years without a problem. Guess I'll take it to the local shop.

The labor rates alone at a local shop will make the radio uuneconomical to repair and they are no longer supported by the depot. There are a couple of members here that do a great job on this and have reasonable rates. "Will" is one of those. A PM might be in order.
