Quantar / DES-XL Encryption Question

Hello All,

I have a question about Quantar Repeaters and Encryption, here is what I would like to do and the questions... I have a Quantar repeater which I would like to have pass DES-XL for my business/association, through the analog and astro if possible, or either. I have a commercial licence with the digital emission designator on my licence, so I am good for digital... When I load the keys into the XTS-3000's, do I also have to load them to the quantar repeater. or does it pass the encryption, anyhow.? I have the quantar running Mixed Mode Astro now and the digital works terrific, clean and crisp audio I am impressed. Will the Quantar pass encryption (DES-XL) through the astro digital only or can it be setup to pass it on analog as well as digital? I am totally confused on this...

Thanks in advance for your help !!!

The Quantar isn't concerned with what's conveyed through the voice section. Clear or coded it won't matter. It's handled on the subscriber side. The station doesn't do any voice decoding. If you were to attach a phone patch or a console then that's a different story and would require a DIU that would need a key loaded in it.

Also, you can only do digital encryption. The station won't support SecureNet/12kbit analog encryption if ASTRO is permitted. To support SecureNet you would need firmware V20.10 or older.

ETA: corrected version number

Thanks for the reply, it is very helpful.. Now I understand.. It I think will be easier to have the mixed mode and digital encryption, and have analog for the older equipment and paging... Thanks
