Astro Spectra Board Swap -- Is this correct?

Post by W6WAW »

I am about to undertake my first Astro Spectra board swap. I currently have two VHF high power Astro Spectras. One is a low split with a W7 head, the other a high split with a W3 head. I want to end up with a low split W3.

From using the search function and reading the posts, it appears that I need to do the following:

1. Read and record the tuning data from both radios and save the respective codeplugs.

2. Swap the controller and vocon boards between the radios.

3. Use the previously recorded tuning data to manually restore the correct data to the radios.

4. If necessary, hack CPS to enable programming the desired frequency ranges for each radio.

Should this do it?

Thanks!

What radios do you own?: APX4K, XTL5K, NX5200, NX700HK

Since they are both VHF units and hi power, don't bother swapping boards, just read the s-rec and send it to someone who knows how to hack the bandsplit in the radio.

Then they'll send it back to you to program back in and viola, a W3 on your low-split radio.
