ASTRO SABER NOT DECODING 1 FREQ

Hello. My friend was programming a UHF AS1 & all worked fine except 1 freq won't decode the repeater. If another radio x-mits simplex to that radio it decodes on that freq fine, it just doesn't like that repeater. MTS 2000's decode that rptr OK. It even decodes a Miami rptr 50 miles away. What's up? I assume by "decode" you're referring to a PL tone... not IMBE, as the MTS2000 obviously isn't.

The ASTRO/ASTRO25 radios use significantly more DSP than the MTS and other older radios. As a result, tolerances are far tighter. PL tones need to be spot-on or the radio won't decode (you should see a flashing red RX indicator, but no unmute). In general, something like a TS-32 isn't sufficiently accurate to make the DSP happy... thus no decode.

Fire up the service monitor and take a look at the PL. You'll likely either need to run CSQ or tweak the repeater's output PL frequency and/or level.

Also, you might want to check the bandwidth settings for that particular personality. I had an issue programming a couple of my XTS's on a local Quantar, and they just wouldn't work - because the previous channel that was in that slot was a 12.5khz one (I had forgotten to change it back). Once it was set right it worked fine.

Terry is right....they do have really tight tolerances.

Figured somethinglike that. Yes the red light flashes. Thanks. GARY N4KVE
