XTS2500 & Group Call features

Post by libuff »

can an XTS-2500 perform an MDC Group Call, such as a waris series can?

i'm on a repeater that allows all the users to get a "group call" feature via MDC which alerts them to certain events, and we are able to encode such a code on the system to alert other users. i know how to setup the individual codes, just NOT the group code.

1. Can an XTS2500 send an MDC command? Yes, though the radios were issued with incomplete firmware, so some of the earlier ones will need a firmware upgrade.

2. You don't distinguish between an MDC alert (makes the radio beep; the radio otherwise listens to dispatch traffic on the channel) ("Page" on the radio menu) and an MDC private call (used to talk one-to-one; target radio opens squelch on valid freq & tone plus MDC but unless thus unmuted, does not listen to dispatch traffic) ("Call" on the radio menu). As far as I know, the "Call" feature has yet to be implemented on firmware (at least not any firmware that I've yet encountered). A page causes the radio to beep and display a message until cleared.

3. Programming: for each radio in the fleet, program its primary four-digit MDC ID in the range of 0001h through DEEEh, excluding F in any digit.. For reach "group", program the "Variable ID" of the radios of the members of that group with a three-digit MDC ID in the range of 001h through EEEh, excluding F in any digit.

4. To send a group page, send the value Exxx, where xxx represents the group's "variable ID."

5. There will be no acknowlegements of a group page.

6. Wildcards are permitted. The hex value F represents a wildcard. For instance, a group call to E12Fh will hit radios whose "variable ID" ranges from 121h through 12Eh.

i will try this when i get home to sit at the CPS... so baically to summarize, you are instructing to add the code E327(hex) to the CPS to tell the radio to alert group #327. i will assume that E3FF will alert fleet 3? and EF27 will get group 27 in any fleet?

i also found that i can page "my group" when using the PAGE menu item... this is in fact what i am trying to do, as the radio i am using is allways part of the GROUP i am trying to page. BUT.. this information is really great to know, Thanks again, i will let u guys know how it worked...

i assume that host9 and dsp9 are quite young and should have these options...

RKG,
you are my new hero!
for reference to all others:
Exxx calls group xxx
FFFF should be All-Call?, also a feature on waris series, alerts any mdc enabled portable?

although, i still haven't tried my FLEET call and particular group call... maybe ExFF for fleet call, or EFxx for particular group call... as waris portables break up the "group code" into FGG f for fleet, g for group...

thanks for the info!!!

sorry to dredge up an old topic, but i'd figured its better than starting a new one...

want to decode a MDC signal with a variable in it... one of my employeers has a unique radio ideification scheme, their members have ###x where the #'s are their ideitifer, and the X is a certification code.

i know i can radio call for example 111F to alert every radio with 111x in it... Will it also decode any radio with 111x as the beginning 3 digits. my concern is when their employees change status, and have a certification code change, i don't want to be updating my alias lists...

let me know if anyone has had experience with this!
