Astro Spectra w/siren and VRS750

Post by Sarge, USMC »

I've installed a VRS750 on an existing VHF Astro Spectra with the siren package. This Spectra has 2 DEK boxes, 1 for siren controls and 1 for status messaging. I am unable to get any function out of the VRS750, set for UHF R2, outside of the ICM displaying VRS BOTH on power up. I should say on ignition power up. The button I have programmed on the W9 control head for VRS control has no function. No beep, no LED, no bonk...nothing. I've been throught the VRS manual regarding programming setup...page after page. Pretty much have everything set to default except for mode steering, which is set for tx steer rx latch. NO VIP control of VRS either. Only the button on the control head.

HALP!! Anyone ever set one of these up?? This my 1st, and it ain't going so well.

I have set up a VRS-EP on an Astro Spectra.

here is something you can try to slowly find out what the issue is
-Back Up code plug
-disable all options in the Astro Spectra (VRS, Siren, DEK Boxes) in CPS
-Remove the options physically from the Astro Spectra
-Enable the VRS Option in the spectra and add a button to the W9 head to turn the VRS on/off.
-Write the code plug to the radio (on reboot the radio should give a fail error indicating the VRS is not attached)
-Turn radio off and attach VRS
-Turn radio on and test out VRS

if it works then slowly start adding other features (and test each out one at a time) until A. it stops working or B. all features you want are added

if it fails then try the VRS on another radio, or try another VRS cable.

finally, are you sure the VRS in question is a R2 UHF VRS? I haven't played with a VRS750 before (have always wanted to though), but that might cause the problem.
