ASTRO SABER LOOSE BATTERY

Hello. I've played with Jedi's alot but I'm new to Astro Sabers. I've aquired a few AS1's & took them out of the case to inspect the guts. I didn't want to tighten the spanner nuts too much but the batteries are loose. If I tighten the nuts more will the battery tighten up? I am using factory batteries & the radios look real clean. Any help? Thanks. GARY N4KVE

Gary,

Factory MOTOROLA batteries usually work fine in Sabers.
Aftermarket batteries quite often do not fit properly.
Try slight tightening/loosening of the spanner nuts; that
sometimes helps. Also check the brass contact screws to
be sure they're tightened down (small Philips head screws).

Regards,

What Tom has typed, is true, and is actually the only way to adjust for loose fitting batteries.

The two spanner nuts on the plate not only retain the radio itself, but also pull in the plate to the case to effect a tight fit of the battery.

I would simply tighten the spanner nuts alone and check the fit of the battery afterwards.

Of course, you can also layer a few pieces of tape on every battery that 'feels' loose and this might help take up the slack you feel.

Be careful about over-tightening the spanners, that can open up a whole host of new problems. Frequently, the AS will not even power on if the spanner nuts have been over-torqued.

The actual factory specified torque value is surprisingly low, somewhere in the area of 6 inch pounds or so.
