Anyone know why motorola is going backwards on mic's. Why do we have to ground the mic clip again on the new series radios

Guess you haven't worked around Motorola enough.

BECAUSE THEY FELT LIKE IT. They do as they please and never talk with the grunts in the field. Besides,
most of the mounting locations are plastic and don't provide the ground the monitor circuit is looking for.
The mics that have the push button on the back hangup button become a maint item over time.

Well, for starters, you don't *have* to ground the clip. If you choose not to do so, you will not be able to take advantage of the automatic on/off hook sensing features. For your XTL5000, these can be enabled/disabled in the codeplug per user preference:

HUB Defeats PL: Conventional > Conventional Configuration > General (tab)
HUB Suspends Scan: Scan > Scan Configuration > Radio Wide (tab)

Personally, I prefer to have manual control of monitor and scan, so I disable these features, even though I have the mics with the pushbutton hangup hubs.

I don't really see how you can contend that Motorola is going "backwards on mic's", since this kind of behavior has been an option from Motorola, as well as other manufacturers, for many years.
