Do you need a channel knob on top? I know the F50V has 700 mW of audio but I'm not sure about the EX. I have friends that use both and are each happy.

I have had one major programming problem with the F50V that involves the scan control buttons on the front of the radio. The buttons have a short-press and long-press function. The short-press function controls the normal scan on-off and nuisance delete functions, where the long-press functions can delete the entire scan list from the radio and other undesirable things for normal use. The long-press activation time is shorter than "M"'s by quite a margin and as a result firefighters are inadvertently disabling their radios. What I feel is needed is a way to adjust the long-press time through programming so this will not occur. -Pete

I have no experiance with Icom's but I have owned an ex600. The first question is what are you using it for? Do you want something that is small? or a bit larger okay? I liked my EX600xls and only got rid of it to get an xts. it was loud and clear and i thought it recieved very well for such a small radio! Easy to use and program as well!

You might check into the Relm 3600A Plus. I had one of those and they are excellent little radios. They even do MDC1200 encode AND decode. I loved the MDC features it had. It even has voice storage on it. Very nice little radio and the software and firmware is free for download on Relms website. They usually run around $300-$350.
