Astro Spectra Ign Sense

Post by libuff »

ok, so i upgraded from a CDM to an astro spectra a4 model... i once also owned a conventional spectra, so, i have a cable which has the programming cable, ign sense cable and speaker cable on the same plug...

currently, the radio will power up with the knob, and will transmit. but no ignition sense. seems to need a relay on the main power, however, everything i've ever learned says thats not correct!

doesn't seem to be an option in the cps either.. thats why im totally boggled, help me people...

Make sure the Ignition Sense isn't set to TX inhibit. I don't know what the steps are in CPS, but in RSS it's Change/View --> Radio Wide Options --> Button/Switch/Menu Items --> Switch Options. If it's set to TX Inhibit, killing the juice to the ignition sense line will disable TX but will still let the radio power up.

If that doesn't do it, then you have a defective control head. Do some searching.. there was a thread on it a year or two back regarding a faulty capacitor causing the radio to always power on regardless of what the ignition sense line was doing.

its a dash mount, not remote... on the CPS, the ignition sense is set to BLANK, however, the only options i can use are TX Inhibit or PTT TX Inhibit, nothing for ignition sense..

What radios do you own?: X9000 thru APX

What do you have the red wire plugged into, that comes off the DB15 port in the back?

Thats the wire that needs to go to the switched outlet with the ignition. Other than that, the control head may have been modified to bypass the power switch. I have seen those with analog spectra's, and I am sure you could do that to the astro heads.

Blank is the correct setting for normal operation. If it's set to Blank and the ignition sense line doesn't power the radio up & down, the control head has either been modified like PJ said, or is defective.

its the darnedest thing, i have the red-wire connected to the fuse block (well actually the cig-lighter) which is ignition switched. i have the main radio power, conected correctly to the battery, two speaker leads to the speaker..

how would i see if that were the case?
