just a quick question hopefully,

have a xts5000 800Mhz model II with 7 zones on it. Is there a way when i am out in the field that i can set lets say zone 5 to be in position one of the switch and then change again later when i really need zone one? i use about 4-5 zones and when i turn the radio off and then back on having to go to zones and change it can be a pain..any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

DD

No. If your radio does not have the FPP (Front Panel Programmability) feature
you can't do any programming in the field, except for minor things such as
nuisance delete when scanning.

Most people, though certainly not all, set up their radios the opposite of the way
it sounds like yours is set up. That means we change channels with the top
rotary switch and we change zones using the buttons. The only practical
reason for doing it the opposite way would be if you have more than 16 channels
set up in a zone.

Also, though I've never tried to set up zones out of sequence, I believe the zones
will always be in ascending numerical order, no matter how you have them selected.

For emergency use it makes sense to use the rotary switch for channel selection and
not for zone changes. It makes it possible to select an emergency channel by "feel"
(meaning turn the switch to position 1 or position 16). You can't do this if you have
to manipulate the buttons and look at the display, and you certainly don't have time
to do this when you need help.

I'm not entirely sure this is responsive, but:

"Zone" is one function that is an exception to the rule that you cannot have the same function on both a control and a menu. You can, for instance, program the A-B-C switch on an XTS 2500 or 5000 for Zones 1, 2 and 3, while retaining the menu for deeper zones. Thus, you would put your most used zones as Zones 1, 2 and 3, and you can switch to one of them instantly via the switch.

The only collateral impact of doing this is that, on power up, the radio will follow the switch, not the zone state at power down. Depending on your application, this can be a plus or a minus.

I believe that CPS10 has a setting for the radio to come back "up"
with the last zone setting, but I've never tried to defeat it, or to use
the ABC switch for zone setting.
