i've seen the posts about using Maxtracs to make a repeater which repeats EVERYTHING on the frequency to another freqency. seems like a bit of a sloppy fix, although, im looking for the mobiles to try it!

but i came across a BK DRH Apco 25 Tactical Repeater, which seems to be nothing more than 2 mobiles... how can they do this, and we can't figure out how. it is double vocoded? why aren't they having the problems we do when linking 2 Astro Spectras?

Probably because their radios weren't over-designed to the point you'd need a team of engineers to take the raw digital data from the receiving Astro Spectra radio in order to pass it onto the transmitting unit. I posted some of this in detail in one of the Maxtrac/Astro repeater threads. I'm sure there are people on this board that could accomplish it given time & materials...I'm probably not one of them. I'm willing to bet it's far simpler in the BK units.

We have several repeaters based on two Simico SRM9000 P25 mobiles that are transparent i.e. they don't convert back to analogue audio between the two mobiles. This is great because there is no need to encrypt each mobile with a relevant code.
Downside is that there is significantly more delay through them compaired with a quantar (Probably due to the processing power of the latter.)

I thought the SRM9000's were analog only. How do you like them in this application? I know the duty cycle is pretty low, at least on the specification sheet.

Sorry they are SRM9022's.
They are O.K. so far, the software is easy to use and they don't run as hot nor draw as much current on standby as XTL5000's which is a bonus here.
They are probably cheaper than an XTL5000 (here anyway).
We haven't got any of their mobiles in vehicles so how they compare with the Astro Spectra's and XTL's in the field is not known to me.
I have looked after a fleet of analog SRM9000's and they seemed reliable, easy to install and programme.

Do you have any information about how these mobiles are connected together? What's the interface type and specification?

Our one is much simplier and uses a crossover cable between the 2 radio's RJ45 ports. This cable is also on their website under their non P25 products.
You can use the same cable for X- Banding radios as well. Must be one of the most simple systems on the market.
