Hello world,
This is my first message on the forum so please forgive me if I slip up with any forum ettiquette.
I can remember visiting the old Batlabs site many years ago to seek info on the latest motorola offering of the time ..the GP300 !! that was a long time ago.

I am London UK based and apart from my interest in all sorts of of radio, I also work as a film extra.

I have got hold of an MTH800 handset and would like to know a few things if anyone can help.
firstly, I see there is a sim card holder inside... Can the handset be programmed to work as a phone ?
Also it is said to be GPS enabled...what does that mean, can it show directions on screen ? or is it just trackable ?

This handset is now in use by most of the Police services in the UK... Much as I would like to be nosey, I dont suppose it is going to happen.. I was only sold the handset on the condition that it came unprogrammed.. I use it mainly as a "Prop" in TV & Film.

Lastly, if it is possible to enable the 'phone' part, does anyone know a UK based Motorola agent who would do the job..?

regards

Scrotey

I suggest that you start here:

http://developer.motorola.com/products/ ... os/mth800/

It looks to be a purely digital portable, probably used mainly by
public service agencies like, as you said, police. You won't find
anyone else using it who would be interested in an "outsider" using
their frequencies.

And it doesn't look as if it has any application as a cellphone.

It doesn't have much use at all in private hands. It doesn't do GSM, and there are no networks you can use it on in the UK.

The GPS functionality is also highly network and application dependent, it's no good as a stand alone GPS device.
