Keyloading Issue with AS3 and DES-XL module.

Hello All,

I am having difficulty loading a key into an NTN1153D module (DES-XL) installed in my AS3. I was initially getting an error "old emc" and found posts advising to turn off CKR Key Management, I did this and now the error has gone away.

The firmware in the AS3 is 7.11.00.00 and the KVL is a T3011DX (does work for MTS2000 and System Sabers but not loaded an AS3 before). I am not sure how to check the firmware in the DES-XL module??? The module came out of another radio and was apparently working before it was removed so the module *should* be ok.

When I try loading a key from location 0 on the kvl it just fails, I have also checked the codeplug data to ensure there are no incorrect settings that would prevent the key from loading, I can't see anything obvious BUT that's not to say there is something hiding in there :-)

My head hurts, any ideas?

Regards,

Nick.

Hello All,

Problem fixed..... still not sure of the root cause but I removed the module from the tin can and reseated and re-installed and all ok. Could have been a suspect connection I guess. I had already reseated before this last attempt so go figure :-)

Cheers.

I'd have to hook up an AS3 but if you were able to clear the CKR key management was there also a selection for PID. I know the newer radios, xts 5000, need to have the PID turned on because they come defaulted to use CKR which I guess is for digital/APCO 25. The only thing I get is a FAIL when trying to load but no other errors. PID key management is for the older radios and securenet

Leaving CKR unchecked will force the radio to use PID key management - thats what you want. CKR unchecked

With the radio hooked to the KVL, it should display something like: "1 to 1" when the KVL PTT is pressed. Pressing the KVL PTT one more time will load
the key (or should....)

Had this problem with a XTS3000 before, the UCM was new firmware, and the radio had old firmware. I was able to load keys, but it took many tries before it loaded. I would sometimes get "1 to 1", then would fail to load key. Other times, it would fail with the first PTT of the KVL - it just displayed failed.

Many times I would get the the " 1 to 1" screen, only to have the key fail to load. If you can get the KVL to show "1 to 1", disconnect and reconnect the KVL cable from the RADIO, and then press the KVL's PTT. I'd get the key to load maybe 1 out of 20 tries that way.

Turning the KVL off and on never seemed to help, but you still should try that. I had the best luck forcing the keys into the radio by disconnecting the KVL cable on the radio (keep the radio turned on) and reconnecting it a few seconds later.

It took around 20 minutes to load 2 keys, but it did eventually work.
