XTL5000 Vs. Astro Spectra Questions

Post by kt2728 »

How does the Reciver of the XTL5000 with the W12 option work vs the reciver on an astro spectra?

i have an astro spectra and the reciver just is not there compared with the analog spectra even with the recive pre-amp board installed.

was just wandering, before i invest in an XTL5000.

thanks

It may depend on the band.

I think my Astro Spectra on VHF kinda sucks, but then again compared to say a GM300 or CDM1250, it kinda rocks too.

In cases where the squelch type is set to "standard", and PL is used, the receiver will unmute some really weak stuff. But the astro spectra on CSQ will pretty much only open for signals that can be decoded and distinguished by the listener, even when the squelch setting is at its lowest above open squelch.

The other radios will unmute the really weak stuff, which sounds like noise... it's definitely a trade-off. I like using my astro spectra as a remote-base. This way the weak stuff that would just be annoying isn't received and sent down the wireline.
