XTS5K Status, Message, & Page Functions

I have set up the MDCs, the alias lists, and made sure they are all the same. What I cant figure out is how to tell the radio which radio to send the status, message, or page to. I can only send the message out to everyone.

Also, is there a way to define what the low power setting is?

Status & Message were never meant as an individual call capability. In fact until very recently, they couldn't be received by radios at all, just dispatch consoles, so it's always been a channel-wide or talkgroup-wide thing.

How can I send a message from one portable to another?

The only way to send "messages" is thru the SMS feature, if you have verison 9? firmware, and the data option on the XTS5000/2500 series radios.

Other than that, your out of luck. The MDC Message/Status really has no use in radio to radio comms, as Wavetar stated it was only decoded by consoles. FWIW, all that showed on the Centracom consoles was "M1 1234", "S4 1234", M for message, S for status and the message/status number followed by the unit ID.

Call/page will work radio to radio as long as they are setup properly.

thanks for the info. Too bad there is not a better way to send a message from one radio to another. Not all my co workers have xts5ks. Lots of sabers though.

Systems Sabers will send MDC Messages between each other, but every radio on the channel will display it. Systems Sabers can also decode the messages sent by other model radios.
