PM 1500 turns itself on

I have a customer who has just had several PM 1500's installed. This one guy has a radio that will turn itself on without any kind of prompting. He turned the radio off going into a three day weekend and noticed it on later that night. He turned it off, thinking he neglected to do it earlier. The next day he was working on a car out in the driveway and noticed it on again.. He turned it off and noticed it on again a little while later.

So, have any of you seen anything like this. The other 20 radio's in the dept. have not had this problem. Any input would be appreciated.

Ben

Is there an intermittent power connection?

Is the radio set up for ignition sense, or is it running off of hot power, or is it on switched power?

i have a half dozen radios (CDMs - if you can call them radios - hahahah) which turn them selves on if they are set up for ign sense AND the battery voltage drops below 10.5 volts. Can't tell you how many times i have walked by the support vehicle to see it's CDM glowing... Check the battery voltage in the offending vehicle?!

CDMs (PMs too I think) use a use button in the volume knob to turn on. This creates a logic level change in voltage that is passing through the switch and commands the radio to wake up.

Wonky voltage in the vehicle could do this or a bad componant in the radio (volume pot, something in the Control Head assumbly, etc.)

escomm,
We checked the battery voltage and everything looked good. The radios are NOT set for ign. sense and all fuses go out to the same power point next to the battery (these are Crown Vics.)

It is STILL our suspicion there is a voltage problem with the vehicle, but we can't prove it, you know, it looks good at the time you check it.

Don't you just love mysteries? :o
