Hi,

I currently rent and program HT1000 Radios for my buisness. However a lot of customers are looking for a 'smaller' radio. I am looking at getting a few HT750's for rent and need to know how friendly the 750's RSS is to work with.

Is it comparable to the HT1000 RSS?
What type of computer do I need? DOS?
I noticed some RIB's have USB ports? Is a COM perfered?

RIBLESS Cables..... I know you are playing with fire with a HT1000 RSS without a RIB, how is the 750.

Apples and oranges.. HT1000 is DOS, and HT750 Pro series is windows CPS. The CPS is fairly easy to navigate, pretty much the same layout as most other windows CPS packages..

Ribless cables work fine with the Pro series portables, pretty much just preference. If your already programming HT1000's, I'll take a guess that you already have a rib box.. You can use the same rib for the HT750 and just pick up the correct Pro series cable..

The Professional Series CPS, will program the HT750, HT1250, HT1550, EX500, EX560, EX600, CDM750, CDM1250, CDM1550, and their LS and LS+ varient, although you will need several different cables.

It will run on any modern Windows machine, although I do not believe that Vista is officially supported as of yet.

The "RIBless" cable is actually just a cable with a miniature RIB built into the connector. There are some OK aftermarket models and some real junk. Given that the price difference for OEM is a lot cheaper than even one trip to the depot, especially for a rental operation, I would personally stick to OEM. Motorola does not officially support USB for the Professional Series. Any of the USB RIBless cables floating around are aftermarket creations which have yielded various levels of performance.

good luck getting a license for Pro series CPS, we had to jump through hoops to get the subscription added to our license kit, Motorola kept spouting some B.S. about "too many dealers in your area". I would strongly recommend using the factory cable, they are around a C-Note, and if your radio gets bricked, the depot will revive it at no charge if you are using a factory cable and licensed CPS...been there, done that...

Oddly enough, I was just on the phone with MOL support earlier today dealing with their latest random foul up.

When the dual licensing issue came up, the representative indicated that, as of a couple of months ago, there is no longer a separate license agreement for the Professional Series CPS.

According to MOL, it is now covered by the standard boilerplate license agreement, and you can order it like any other title.

If you are using VHF HT1000's:
We found with a customer that the HT750's had horrible range when compared with the HT1000's. You may want to consider using PR860's, way better than the HT750's. They have a few less software features, but performace is identical to the HT1000, plus the PR860 comes standard with IMPRES battery and charger. The CPS for the PR860 can be easier to navigate than the HT750 CPS.

What else makes the PR860 better than the HT750 series?
